Gold to Graphite Mirror Frames

What do you think of my garage sale find?
You know when you see something that you just feel could become something better?

Last year I found these gold frames with mirrors.  They were a find for like $2 and sat in my office because I wasn't sure what to do with them.
I just knew I loved their design.

Gold is not a color I have in my home and probably never will. I don't find it a warm color and seems too posh for my liking.
So . . .

finally I decided to paint them Graphite.
I used Anne Sloane Chalk Paint because it's so easy when you want to cover up without all the sanding.  As long as it's not too glossy and smooth, then it needs a slight sanding.

Now I could leave them as is but they are a little too boring for me.
And something needed to hi-light the detail.

A little sanding revealed the gold beneath and voila!
I love the look and really need to get these hung up.
I finished with some wax to polish up and seal the paint.

This picture is taken with natural light in the living room so you can see the real deal.
Happy garage saling!
You never know what you'll find and even if you don't know right then what you'll do with your find, buy it and store it for a rainy day project.

. . . . having a good time,

Part 2 "a fresh look on just pennies"

You don't NEED to spend alot of money to get a new look.
Which is exactly what happened when I needed
a new look for our entry table.

This table was sanded down and then
re-stained to match all our trim.

I love garage sales when I really KNOW where I'm going to put my new finds . . . like these flowers.
( I don't know what they are called though)

Sometimes you just need a little imagination to create
a new look, such as these 'butterfly' vases.

A dusty looking old metal bowl at a garage sale,
makes a unique bowl when all shined up.

I hummed and hawed over buying this vase but
in the end it was $2, even if I have alot of vases,
none are like this one.

Have a great weekend!
I'm on to other good things.

Part 1 "a fresh summer coffee table"

THE best part of a sunny morning,
is enjoying that first cup of coffee in the living room.
And I need my home to be comfortable and cheery,
so that's what I think I've done with our coffee table.

I had these black photo boxes that just didn't work for me,
so I converted them into these 'display trays'.
Now, they have a new color and
display small treasures that can be changed at any time.
I lined the bottoms with fabric that you'll see in the pictures.

Enjoy your coffee.
Part 2 - soon

The day of May 12th

This morning, this Mothers Day morning, I sat in the living room with the sun streaming in and sipped my Tim Hortons coffee that my husband got for me.  Slowly the tears started to run and I couldn’t stop them, I didn’t want them to stop.  I want to remember this time in our lives as bitter-sweet perhaps.  Of better things to come and memories created from just such a few short weeks ago.  I could blame my feelings on menopause and the hot/cold nights I spend trying to sleep but even so, it doesn’t matter because the feelings are still very much tender and I want to embrace this time as strange as that reads.

As a mom today I was reflecting on my children and retrieved a ‘note’ we were forced to write when we were attending a Vineyard church years ago.  I didn’t know what to write so I wrote what was near to my heart.  Here is a very small exerpt from that.

‘My heart aches for my children.  It hurts to see them going thru stuff.  I really pray that You’d bless them!’

I know they are blessed today with people in their lives who richly love them.  I take pride in my children and their spouses (and spouses-to-be).

Now I shall continue with the day and rejoice in the good things.  My husband and dog are waiting for me so we can go outdoors and perhaps clean the fish pond and go for a walk.

Till next time and other 'good things'.
