A New Spot for Gunner

With all the extra fabric I have on hand, 

I decided to sew Gunner and place that is his own.

A place we can tell him to go to when:

     ~ the doorbell rings

     ~ we are having a snack and he’s not invited

     ~ when company arrives and maybe they don’t like dogs

THIS little pillow has a special corner sewed 

where I can slip in some treats when he obeys.  

Also works for training to go to ‘his spot’.

Isn’t this a face you could just kiss all day?

Bathroom Organizer

I just love my makeup organizer in our en suite.  

I know that today you can find a lot of different organizers but they just didn’t work for me so I created my own.

Small Organizer

7 top pockets:

2 ¼”, 1”, 2”, 2”, 2”, 1”, 2 ¼”

3 bottom pockets:

5”, 3”, 5”

Large Organizer

5 top pockets:

1 ¾”, 3 ½”, 3”, 3 ½”, 1 ¾”

3 bottom pockets:

4 ¾”, 4”, 4 ¾”

We had a very small 3 piece en suite at one time with no storage space so every thing ended up on the counter.  When it came time to pack to go anywhere I was always frustrated at picking all the makeup I’d be using and throwing it all into another bag, only to be digging in it to find something or dumping it out on the counter.

So I created these organizers that were off the counter and very convenient every day.  This meant a cleaner counter top for sure.  Every thing I needed every day was right in front of me.  I had room for the regular favourites and the special items.  The organizer has grommets that hold a small suction cup which fasten onto the mirror.

When it’s time to pack I just grab my organizers and either place them in a zip lock baggie or any bag with a zipper.  When I arrive at my destination, I can hang them up on the bathroom and have every thing at hand, neatly displayed for me.

I’m currently working on a few different sizes but these are 2 of my earlier ones.  I'm always perfecting and creating a better look.

From Bed to Sofa

As the professionals say…..

“replace the pillows on your bed every 3 months”.

Really?  We usually wait till they go flat or get buldgy and that could be any length of time and then I wait till I see some new pillows on sale somewhere, like when I’m getting groceries.

So what do you do with the pillows you just replaced?  Do you toss them out with the regular household garbage?

I myself had a pile of pillows waiting to be discarded of.

After visually seeing how much fluff was accumulating I realized I could use that fluff for new pillows. 

I washed the pillows so I at least knew the fluff was clean for my new pillows.   

At a trip to IKEA, I purchased 2 pillow covers (I really wanted to sew the covers but at the time these were all ready for me) and then hopped over to a hardware store to buy painting drop cloth.  Watch those prices!  I found a package 5’x12’ at Canadian Tire for $15.00  That makes a lot of pillows.

I cut the drop cloth the size of the pillow covers and added more for the seam.  In this case I added ¾”.  Then I ironed a fold since the fabric is quite thick and it makes sewing easy.  Since my sewing machine is at our daughter’s house I stitched the inserts by hand while watching TV.  Didn’t take much time at all.

Then I ripped open the old pillow cases and removed the stuffing, putting it into my new fat sofa pillows.  On the second pillow I remembered to stuff the corners otherwise it’s impossible to do when you’re done.  When stitching the last length closed I was way smarter.  I stitched each end towards the center leaving 1/3 of the space open.  Then I could reach in and stuff into the corners.  Ta-Da!  Then I stitched the last remaining space closed. 

All that was left was to insert them into the new pillow covers. 

Now I have to wait till I have more buldgy pillows.
