the ORANGE Door

Here it is.
The orange door that has taken me a little longer than I wanted
but I’m quite pleased with the final look.

Normally I would say sanding is not necessary before painting with Chalk Paint but in this case the varnish on the door was cracked and easily popped off when you scraped your nail across it.  So you just know what will happen when you begin to paint.

A light sanding was all it needed  but more intense sanding in the corners.  Fun!

That’s me in my work studio/garage.  It works for now.
Actually I think the hubby was working on sleds in there too, so I had some company.

After 3 coats of paint it was ready for the fun stuff.
I bought the white board with hooks from Pier1.
It’s distressed and very pretty but I couldn’t capture the finish clear enough.
Then I found some wine corks that were so pretty, also at Pier1.
The detail on these is gorgeous.
My husband changed them into knobs and screwed them on.  Very clever.

The finished look is very nice.  I accomplished this with several steps.
I did some light sanding after painting, then rubbed in the wax really good
and basically wiped it till it shon.
Then I sanded some more because now I could see the rough spots.
I applied more wax and rubbed off most of it, leaving just enough for it to seal.
Letting it dry overnight, I did a final polish the next day.
It’s smooth and very shiny.

The purpose of this door?  It’s amazing.  Not only is it a piece of décor for your bedroom, guest bedroom, entrance or even living room, it serves a purpose.
I pictured just a few ideas for you but you can use your own imagination for your own home.

Great for hanging up the clothes you might change into right after work or your bathrobe or even your delicates.  If you have a lot of miscellaneous items cluttering your front entrance this is the ticket for you. Looks nice and everything is organized. Imagine hanging a basket or bag containing keys, dog leases and ‘poop bags’ so that it looks neat and clean and very classy.  You could even add more hooks as you needed.

That’s it for this color door.  I will post soon my favourite door -   The ‘Blue Door’.
Until then, have a good week.

Sunday Reflection - An Awesome Find

So, this is what I did on Saturday.
Dragged my hubby around to a few garage sales and found a few treasures.
I won't show you them today but I was excited when we strumbled upon a 4 person estate sale.
Some stuff I seriously wondered if he should be selling at a garage sale.
I didn't buy any expensive items but they were beautiful.
Anyways, I had contacted the lady whose mother owned this radio/record player about 2 weeks ago.  Finally we arranged a time and I bought it for $20.  She was asking for $25 but I didn't have correct change and she didn't either so she said 'just take it for $20'. Done!  Start the car, start the car.
It is in fine shape, even hubby said so.
I plan to make it into a docking station/desk for our guest bedroom.  There will be storage inside after Greg remodels it a bit.  He's so excited about it.  Then, I'll probably put it up for sale.

I felt really bad when the lady had to show me how the stereo worked and the 8 track. Yes, it has an 8 track.  She said it just needed a bit of cleaning.  I did not have the heart to tell her it would be totally gutted.  Thanks to Greg, he told the mister while they loaded it onto the truck.  She probably cried when her husband told her.  I always want to be more discreet as I take peoples treasures that meant alot to them.  But then they should have kept them.

Later that same day we enjoyed the yard and hubby barbequed some great steaks.
First of the season.
I love our yard when the sun begins to set behind the trees and everything seems to look more colorful.
The pond is very serene too.

A daytime look at the pond.

Gosh, we have worked alot on this yard for the last 4 years.  It had come a long way.  When we bought, we were the 2nd house in our cul de sac and the trees backed a farmer's field before selling to the developer.  We even had moles back then.

Just a few plants are beginning to show their colors and this one in particular is so delicate and doesn't last very long.  The bells are no bigger than my pinkie finger.

Well, have a good week.  Enjoy your yard and a festive drink!
~ Bonny
